Cellar Door's Tips & Information
Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or just starting your journey, there's something here for everyone.
Wine Swirling
Why do we swirl wine in the glass before tasting it?
It releases the bouquet and enhances the aroma by allowing oxygen into the wine. It allows us to observe the wine's viscosity, indicating tannins, sugar levels, and alcohol content.
Decanting Wine
When is the best age to decant a wine, and why is decanting beneficial?
There is no specific age for decanting wine. Historically, it was to avoid sediment. Decanting young reds can help oxygenate them, softening tannins and sulphites.
Wines That Benefit from Decanting?
Our Award-winning 2021 Scotchmans Hill Shiraz benefits from being decanted for 2 hours before drinking.
Wine Storage
Ideal Storage for Wine Enthusiasts at Home:
Keep wine at a stable temperature. Invest in a wine fridge if possible, and take reds out a few hours before decanting and drinking.
Common Storage Mistakes:
Avoid large temperature fluctuations, storing wine near ovens, or in hot garages. High temperatures can prematurely age and spoil the wine.
